Reno Decompression Party @ Nikki Beach

After Burning Man we headed into Reno. A few points to mention, driving back down a two lane road at full speed with 30000 other people who’s minds are not in the best state to be driving was one of the sketchiest situations I have ever been in. I slept. So if I had died it would have been over quickly since I was half way there. Secondly it turns out that the burning of the man is just a spectacle for the weekender RV people who come to burning man. They pulled it over cause it wasn’t burning fast enough, retarded. The Temple Burn on Sunday was one of the most glorious things I have ever seen. A billion people sitting in quiet reverence while the temple burned. That was a feeling! We get to Reno and its a scene out of a surreal spacegangster rap video. Beautiful people lounging around the pool all dreadlocks and tattoos at this VIP nonsense resort club thing with bottle service and all. Weird, but totally in context with the nothing to hold on to mindstate of an after burn. I am so impressed with the Nikki Beach people who tolerated 2am beatbox dance sessions in the lobby and served a wicked brunch with king crab legs and some sort of tasty eggs. 10 dollar drinks were wack unless you had the OJ with the cherries in it then you only needed one.

The moments were smooshed together in a bliss like pate of poolside chillin and as night fell the soundsystem took over as proprietor of cabana bound beats. I missed my slot to play and the wonderful DJs who came after me each gave up 10 min from their sets in order to let me play in the end. The cops had been called by the nearest neighbors, 5 miles away. I swear it wasnt that loud. You could have a conversation in front of the subs and without the ear ringing usually accompanied by such close proximity. Huge thanks to Christian for what I am claiming is the sickest soundsystem on the west coast. I was nervous about playing for all these people who live and breath electronic music until the first beat dropped. Then it was sailing on from there. Not smooth sailing. One turntable died in the middle of my set and the left channel went out on the mixer and consequently the headphones. Not exactly smooth. With the puppet show setting up in front of me as I was finishing it got absurd. But I am still smiling as I write this cause it was so fun and sounded so different than the rest of the music that I feel a lot more confident playing for anyone now.

Overall it was a great experience playing for my friends and I look forward to many future sets with the Nexus Crew. Thanks to Little John for teaching me how to use the CDJs on the fly. Wicked! D
